The Department Operations:

The Public Works Department is composed of 15 full-time employees who are responsible for the Township’s infrastructure, including the sanitary sewer system with five pump stations and over 100 miles of sanitary lines,  66 miles of roads and storm sewers, traffic signals, maintenance of 11 parks and the Township Building as well as fleet maintenance.

The Position:

The Foreman will report directly to the Assistant Director of Public Works and have frequent interactions with the Director of Public Works.  This position will supervise and direct the work of crews including 11 FT and 3 seasonal employees.

The Foreman is expected to have strong leadership, communication and people skills; the ability to manage in a busy environment; and knowledge of state and federal regulations.

Planning, directing, and supervising the Public Works team and outside contractors in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the sanitary sewer system, including pump stations and flow meters is a primary function for the Foreman.

The Public Works Department Foreman will perform a variety of skilled and unskilled duties, such as:
• Overseeing the construction and maintenance of Township sanitary sewer, roads, storm sewers, facilities, and parks;
• Assisting in the evaluation of individual and team performance;
• Assessing training needs;
• Recommending and implementing training programs;
• Creating and managing the team’s work schedule; and
• Operating Township equipment and vehicles. 


Job Requirements:

The ideal candidate:
  • Will be knowledgeable and have considerable ability in the maintenance and construction techniques involving sanitary sewer, roads, drainage systems, and flood control.
  • Must have progressively more responsible management experience in public works, sanitary sewer operations and construction, or a related field. 
  • Will have a minimum of Ten (10) years of progressive experience in public works operations (or related field) in a supervisory or management role.
  • Valid Department of Environment Protection (DEP) Wastewater System Operator Certification.
  • Valid Pennsylvania Commercial Driver’s License - CDL, Class B and air brake endorsement and with tank endorsement; Class A preferred or within one year of start date.
